Brad Garlinghouse, CEO of Ripple, expressed optimism about the future of cryptocurrency and XRP’s ability to overcome legal and regulatory hurdles in the United States. In an interview with Trina Robinson, Garlinghouse highlighted the growing adoption of digital assets globally and hesitantly predicted that the total market capitalization of cryptocurrencies could reach $5 trillion.

Ripple is growing globally
“We are remaking financial infrastructure in a way that is good for society,” Garlinghouse said, highlighting XRP’s mission to facilitate seamless cross-border payments using its XRP ledger. Despite regulatory challenges in the United States, XRP continues to expand internationally, with 95% of its customers based outside the country.
The SEC Lawsuit Saga
Garlinghouse acknowledged that the ongoing battle between XRP and the SEC, which claims XRP is a security, has created obstacles to its growth. However, he stressed that XRP is ready to take this case to the Supreme Court if necessary. A recent federal court ruling confirmed that XRP is not a security, a decision the SEC has since appealed.
“Regulatory clarity in the United States is inevitable,” Garlinghouse said, adding that clearer rules would ultimately open up significant opportunities in the domestic market. He also noted that the price of XRP has been affected by regulatory uncertainty, but he remains optimistic about the asset’s long-term potential.
While reaching a market cap of $5 trillion by the end of the year may be ambitious, Garlinghouse said the sector’s macroeconomic trends are strong. “It’s less about the exact timing and more about the direction the world is going,” he explained.
XRP’s vision of creating an “Internet of Value” continues to drive its global expansion, particularly in regions like South America, where its technology addresses real financial challenges.
