Real Vision crypto analyst Jamie Coutts outlines the key trends the cryptocurrency industry is likely to see in 2025.

Amid this massive growth, Coutts predicts that some DeFi protocols could outperform Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Solana (SOL). He also sees the start of an entanglement between DeFi and TradFi next year.
“Major trends for 2025
1. TradFi is starting to catch up – expect CEX acquisitions (centralized exchange) and more crypto integrations (Robinhood/Arbitrum)
2. Multiple CEX files and listing on TradFi exchanges.
3. Multiple CEXs create their own DEX (L2) platforms or multi-chain integrations
4. RWA (real world asset) drives up industry valuations as tokenization of financial assets accelerates (especially stocks and fixed income)
5. TradFi growth investors start adding crypto sleeves – DeFi sector is a priority because they can be modeled on cash flow
6. DeFi sector grows 4-5 times. Several protocols outperform ETH/SOL/BTC.
Coutts adds that the numbers show crypto is rapidly gaining ground compared to the more established TradFi industry.
“It’s wild. Cryptocurrency eat TradFi’s lunch.
1. Coinbase: 11% of global foreign exchange revenue, ranked 5th, ahead of Nasdaq.
2. DEX (decentralized exchanges): 5%, ahead of HKEX (The Hong Kong Stock Exchange) and CBOE.
3. Total CEX revenue could reach parity with TradFi in 2024.
4. CEX and DEX grow 2.5 to 4 times faster than TradFi.
5. DEXs are among the most “profitable” applications in the world.
6. If you value the CEX sector on Coinbase’s P/S (price/sales) multiple: the total market cap would be $749 billion versus $610 billion for TradFi.
At the time of writing, the total market capitalization of DeFi stands at $152.616 billion.
