The EF Ecosystem Funding Initiative team is proud to announce the launch of the 2025 Academic Grants Cycle, a pioneering initiative aimed at empowering and pushing the boundaries of Ethereum-related academic research. With a dedicated fund of 2 million dollarsWe look forward to building on the success of previous rounds by supporting innovative research in various areas critical to growing and strengthening the Ethereum ecosystem.
Round scope
The scope of this round includes, but is not limited to, projects in the areas of game economics and theory, applied and theoretical cryptography, consensus algorithms, protocol design, technologies networking and P2P, client engineering, security, formal verification and humanities. We welcome bold ideas and innovative approaches that can meaningfully contribute to the Ethereum community. You are invited to refer to our wish list for ideas, but don’t let that limit your creativity!
Who can apply?
The call is open to academic researchers, educators, and thinkers from institutions, universities, research centers, and think tanks whose ideas or proposals align with Ethereum’s vision. We encourage submissions from individuals or teams interested in exploring the possibilities of the Ethereum protocol.
Application Essentials
- Proposal deadline: Proposals must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. AoE on March 16, 2025. Be sure to submit your applications here.
- Types of projects: Projects must produce formal academic research, and the research results must be open access with a free and permissive license.
- Target audience: Applications are open to individual researchers with an academic background, research centers, universities, think tanks, educators, and other stakeholders interested in Ethereum research.
- Submission format: Proposals must be in PDF format, written in English and include a detailed description of the project, a budget, a timeline, the applicant’s profile and a link to any relevant public works or repositories. Here is a proposal template
- Funding decisions: Applicants will be notified of funding decisions within six weeks of the deadline.
