As blockchain technology continues to garner global attention, the European Blockchain Convention (EBC) is set to bring together key industry figures and policymakers in Barcelona, Spain, from September 25-26, 2024. This year marks the tenth edition of the event, a milestone as interest in cryptocurrencies and digital assets peaks amid regulatory advancements and widespread adoption.
The event will feature a series of discussions focused on two major developments: the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulatory framework and the approval of Bitcoin and Ethereum exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in the United States. These regulatory changes are widely seen as crucial steps towards the integration of blockchain technology into the global financial system, leading to increased institutional adoption.
Daniel Salmerón, co-founder of the European Blockchain Convention, highlighted the importance of these developments:
“The EU’s MiCA framework and the US approval of Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs represent positive regulatory developments as blockchain becomes more mainstream. This year’s event will pave the way for a gathering of world leaders to set new standards for the industry.”
Covering a wide range of topics, the event aims to explore key areas of interest that have seen rapid growth, including decentralized finance (DeFi), non-fungible tokens (NFTs), Web3 gaming, privacy, security, and artificial intelligence. EBC’s internal research showed a 54% increase in global interest in blockchain in 2024, the largest year-on-year increase since the convention began in 2018.
The convention fosters in-depth discussions that go beyond theoretical concepts, encouraging participants to find concrete solutions and establish tangible standards for the blockchain industry.
Victoria Gago, co-founder of EBC, stressed the importance of fostering a mix of voices:
“Our mission has always been to create a platform that bridges gaps and fosters constructive dialogue. From Web3 innovators to representatives of traditional financial institutions, we believe the industry moves forward when we engage in difficult conversations and challenge our own beliefs.”

Participants will also be in the city during the prestigious Louis Vuitton America’s Cup sailing competition, adding a unique cultural element to their experience.
