CARSON CITY, Nev. (KOLO) – Nevada’s Secretary of State says it has integrated blockchain technology into its election certification process.
They say this adds an extra layer of security to the certification.
“Blockchain adds important protection by making it much more difficult to modify or counterfeit these vital documents, ensuring that our certification process is both transparent and reliable. We are proud to lead the country in using emerging technologies to protect the integrity of our elections,” said Secretary of State Francisco Aguilar.
The Secretary of State says the technology ensures that the verification certificate is verifiable at all times and remains protected against unauthorized changes or fraud.
Blockchain involves creating a unique, fixed-length “fingerprint” on the document using a cryptographic hash function which, according to Aguilar, protects the document against tampering.
The record will undergo final review by the Archivist of the United States and the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration to ensure that all legal and regulatory requirements have been met.
