Polymarket’s chances of US President Donald Trump pardoning Ross Ulbricht within his first 100 days in office have risen to 95% following a recent comment from billionaire Tesla founder Elon Musk.
“Ross will also be released,” Musk said in a Jan. 21 response to an article on X.

Shortly after Elon Musk’s response, the decentralized prediction platform saw Ulbricht’s chances of pardon increase from 54%. Bettors on Polymarket NOW put the odds of the Silk Road founder receiving a pardon from Trump at 95%.
The bet on the possible pardon of Ross Ulbricht reached an amount of more than 5.27 million dollars.
Silk Road founder sentenced to life in prison
The bet that Ross Ulbricht will get a pardon from Trump comes after the Silk Road founder was arrested in 2013 and sentenced to life in prison in 2015 without the possibility of parole. He was convicted for creating and running what became the most popular dark web marketplace at the time, allowing users to sell illegal products, mainly drugs. The platform used Bitcoins for transactions to maintain anonymity.
Many believed that Ulbricht’s sentence was too long for the crime. His supporters have collected more than 600,000 signatures on freeross.org demanding clemency from Ross Ulbricht. Among those who signed the petition are Bitcoin holders who support the idea of Silk Road.
Trump’s promise to pardon Ulbricht
Last May, Trump first promised to pardon Ulbricht while campaigning at the Libertarian National Convention.
“If you vote for me, on day one, I will commute Ross Ulbricht’s sentence to time served,” Trump said, adding: “He’s already served 11 years, we’re going to take him home.”
Despite his strong pro-crypto campaign, the US president has not made any official statements regarding Ulbricht or digital asset policy.
However, Musk’s message about X increased Ulbricht’s chances of release. Angela McArdle, chairwoman of the Libertarian National Committee, also mentioned that a pardon for Ulbricht was in the works.
Meanwhile, Ulbricht has distanced himself from any cryptocurrencies or coins using his name. He posted on X that there was no official “Ross piece.”
Roger Ver, an early Bitcoin investor and supporter of Bitcoin Cash, also has a grace bet on Polymarket. Ver was charged with tax fraud last April, and the market currently estimates that there is a 32% chance he will receive a pardon within the first 100 days after Trump enters the White House for his second term .
